What I'm Eating... Grilled Cheese & Sweet Potato Fries

I'm not going to make a bunch of apologies for not updating in days, weeks, months?... I'll just jump right back into it, here.  :)

My 'fella and I walked down to our Lakefront beach yesterday, and enjoyed sitting outside at the Dock, sipping on cool drinks, and munching on the yummy "grown-up" grilled cheese (with avocado & pico de gallo) and delightful sweet potato fries.

And while I'm on the topic of the Lake, why yes, yes I did have a lovely Fourth of July, thank you!

It was my first day off in about nine days, so I thoroughly enjoyed it.  I hope you enjoyed yours, too!

What I Ate... Fifth Week of April

A week or so ago, my 'fella and I finally visited Trader Joe's to pick up easy frozen things that I don't feel tremendously guilty about eating.  Somehow, a frozen quiche from TJ's feels much better than a frozen pizza, or, goodness no, a Hungry Man dinner!

Of course, I have the worst time resisting the urge to order in (I'm so tired, and consequently lazy, after work), so we had at least one night of outstanding Vietnamese food from Hai Yen.

Spring rolls with grilled beef
Lime sauce (with spring rolls)
Salt & pepper shrimp, scallops and squid
I often visit Wrigleyville Dogs for lunch, but for the first time, I tried their gyros sandwich.  I couldn't believe how good it was!  Kind of embarrassing trying to eat it nicely with my co-workers looking on, though.  :)

On game nights, when its nice enough to eat outside, I still don't think anything beats Bernie's grilled cheese (add bacon and pickles).  Its even better with tater-tots, but sometimes they forget, and give me fries instead.  It's okay, the fact that they'll grill pickles on my sandwich without making a deal about it, and then give me extra pickles on the side, keeps me happy!

I was craving seafood (again!) the other night, so while my 'fella baked some chicken, I beheaded shrimp, and fried them up with butter, garlic, lemon juice, fleur de sel, and parsley.

I did most of my Royal Wedding celebration by myself, but we did enjoy some version of fish and chips for dinner Thursday night.

And, because I'm so happy about my new ring (there's a long story, there, about me being engaged to myself, but I'll save it for now) -- this arrived Friday afternoon!

Yay!
It's a rough diamond, conflict-free, set in gold, with a hammered and oxidized silver band.  Yes, I'm quite in love... with myself.  ;)

Lady Olivia is lording over my computer time... I think she wants some attention!

Cutest kitty ever...
Everyone, have a nice weekend!!  So far its a little windy here, but I hear its supposed to hit 70-degrees?? Well, if it doesn't, there's always Jellies at the Shedd Aquarium.

What I'm Eating... More Ballpark Food

I've got to tell you, this is by no means fabulous haute cuisine, but when you've been working for hours straight, days straight, the luxury of sitting down to eat anything is pretty incredible.  That aside... I have pretty cheap taste, sometimes, and I think a hot dog or a grilled cheese sandwich is sometimes the greatest thing on earth.  Okay, so another roundup of hastily consumed meals...

First things first, we now have D'Agostino's Pizza at Wrigley Field.  A HUGE improvement over Connie's from previous seasons, this pizza is so surprisingly good and cheesy.  If you're at the park, I promise it's worth the $6.50!

The fruit cup is new, and pretty good, I think it's going to be a huge hit in the Summer.  Also, chicken tenders never fail to disappoint.  :)

A co-worker grabbed this mac & cheese from Sheffield's (in the park, just east of the home plate gift shops), and it was awesome!  It had artichoke hearts in it!

The one night I actually managed to make a suitable dinner -- Polish with tomatoes, onions, and green peppers.

So... have you ever had grilled cheese with pickles on it?  I promise you will love it (as long as you love pickles, that is).  Bernie's hooked me up with this mega-lunch -- grilled cheese w/ pickles, tomatoes, and bacon, and fries -- for only $4.  Seriously.  And, there were more pickles on the side.  Yup.

Thursday morning, I was so thrilled that a whole bag of cotton candy was waiting for me at my desk.  Winning!  (Another healthy breakfast, I'm sure.)

Okay, so it's my first day off in... eleven days?  So far I've spent it luxuriously smoking cigarettes in my luxurious bath, drinking coffee with cream & sugar (stepping it up!), talking to my friends and my sister on the phone in the bathtub (many things can be accomplished from the bathtub, apparently), and now I'm working on deviled eggs with horseradish...  It's so nice to be home!
